Erzurum City Guide
A Day in Erzurum
Erzurum, located at the piedmont of Palandöken Mountain, is the largest city in the Eastern Anatolia Region. To explore Erzurum, we recommend you to rent a car and set off since there are so many places to explore in the city. We asked the locals: What to eat in Erzurum? What are the places to visit in Erzurum? Then we created an enjoyable travel plan based on the answers we received.
Breakfast in Erzurum
We recommend you to have a delicious breakfast before starting your Erzurum trip. It is possible to say that you will come across a rich table for breakfast. The flavors we recommend you to try are Erzurum kettle, water pastry and lalanga. After a pleasant breakfast, you will be ready to explore the city.
Places to Visit in Erzurum
Öşvank Church, which stands out with its architecture, is one of the places that you should not leave Erzurum before seeing it. The church in Uzundere's Çamlıyamaç Village was built by Georgian princes David and Bagrat between the years 963 and 973.
After Öşvank Church, you can go to Balıklı Village, known for its magnificent view. Tortum Lake and Tortum Waterfall are also located in Balıklı Village. If you wish, you can take a boat ride in the lake or check the dates and participate in the festivals organized by the lake.
A Delicious Break
In Erzurum, you will find many restaurants where you can eat kebab and trout. The most popular dish you should try in the city is definitely Cağ kebab. However, if you want to save this one for dinner, you have many other options. Aşotu soup, stuffed turnip, çiriş dish and çaşır are just some of the flavors you should taste in this magnificent city.
Palandöken, which is 110 km away from Tortum Waterfall, should be your next stop. You can watch the city view from Palandöken, which is a ski and winter sports resort. Located in the center of the city and known as the symbol of Erzurum, Yakutiye Madrasa is a true masterpiece with its engravings on its stone gate. The madrasa, which was built in 1310 for Hodja Yakut Gazan, is well preserved. Erzurum Atatürk House, which is an example of old Erzurum houses, is one of the places that should be in your travel plan. In the house where Atatürk stayed for 52 days in 1919, the printing press on which Erzurum Congress papers were printed is also exhibited.
Our first suggestion for dinner will be Cağ kebab, if you did not choose it for lunch. Tatar pastry, Erzurum soup with meatballs, kesme soup, yalancı dolma and potato borani are other Erzurum dishes we recommend you try. After the dinner, a dark tea accompanied with the famous stuffed kadayıf of Erzurum will be another experience that will help to relieve all the tiredness of the day.
Nightlife in Erzurum
If you want to continue the night, you have two options. You can choose different cafés and bars in the city or you can head to the places with calmer concepts serving within the hotels.
