Places to Visit in Samsun
You should start your city tour from Bafra. There are two reasons for this: Akalan Waterfalls and Asar Castle. Bafra is about 50 km from the city center, but you have to go 45 km further south from the district to see the waterfalls. Consisting of 18 waterfalls, Akalan is one of the city's treasures waiting to be discovered. After enjoying this peaceful area, you can set off towards Asar Castle, which is 21 km away. The castle, which is thought to have been built in the 3rd century BC, is at a special point where Paphlagonian rock-cut tombs are also located.

If you come to Bafra, you must taste the famous pita of the district. Bafra pita is one of the flavors you can prefer for lunch. In Samsun, which is famous for its pitas, you can choose to eat roasted bean pickle or beetroot dish beside the pita.

You should start your tour in the city center from Gazi Museum. The building, formerly known as Mantika Palace, used to serve as a hotel. This hotel, where Atatürk stayed on his first visit to the city, was converted into a museum in 1940. Today, Atatürk's study room, his personal belongings and photographs shedding light on the period are exhibited in the museum.
After the museum, you can encounter the First Step Monument, which was built on the 100th anniversary of Atatürk's birth and immortalizes the moment he got off the ferry to the city. Bandırma Ferry and Honor Monument should also be on your list of places to see in the city center. You can end your tour in Samsun city center with Samsun Archeology and Ethnography Museum, where the Amisos treasure is displayed.
